How to spruce up a small bedroom

Many of us dream of a bigger boudoir. With a walk-in wardrobe, ample cupboard space and dreamy lighting. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t blessed with vast master suites and don’t have the funds to move house during a cost of living crisis.

But just because you have a small bedroom, it doesn’t mean you can’t create a functional yet beautiful space that you cherish spending time in.

Here are some ways you can spruce up your bedroom.

    1. Think about the bed positioning

In a small bedroom, layout is crucial. With the potential to make or break your bedroom, it’s important to consider the bed positioning. For smaller bedrooms, it’s a good idea to keep the room feeling symmetrical. Rather than shoving the bed into the corner or against a wall, bring it to the centre of the room. This means you can easily get to both sides – making changing the bedsheets a breeze!

    1. Keep it simple

Cosy bedrooms don’t need loud wallpaper or intricate designs. They need the opposite. By paring back your bedroom design, you’ll create the illusion of space.

As well as keeping your colour scheme muted, it’s a good idea to keep furniture to a minimum. This way you’ll stop your room from feeling cluttered.  If you think you have too much furniture in your bedroom, join the millions of people selling their belongings on second-hand shopping sites.

    1. Add mirrors

Interior designers have been using this trick for decades. Decorating your bedroom with mirrors is a brilliant way to make your bedroom feel instantly bigger. Positioning mirrors opposite or next to a window will allow the most light to reflect around the room.

When you’re hanging your mirrors, it’s important to spend time getting the right fixings. So have a rummage through your Milwaukee toolbox to find some secure fastenings that’ll hold the weight of the mirror.

    1. Think about wall lights

Table lamps mounted on bedside tables are a staple in many bedroom designs. But that doesn’t mean they’re the best choice – especially in small bedrooms.

While they look elegant, bedside lamps take up a lot of valuable bedside table space. Where space is at a premium, wall lights are the superior choice. Whether you opt for plug-in or wired bedside lights, you’ll have so many options to choose from.

    1. Maximise storage space

Just because your bedroom is small, that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice your wardrobe space. It just means you have to be smart about it.

Swapping your freestanding wardrobe for a fitted one will make the most of the space that you have. So, there’s no need to throw out your beloved shoes, bags and coats!

    Final thoughts…

Small bedrooms get a bad rep. But they shouldn’t! With a few small tweaks you can create the bedroom of your dreams without spending the earth. Now it’s time to get stuck into some DIY.
